Work
- I’ve been working as a software engineer at tmrw for almost 5 months now. I’ve enjoyed it more than I expected. It’s been a pretty huge learning experience for me being part of the inner machinations of an early stage startup. When I joined there was:
-
no product
-
no customers
-
no backend infrastructure
-
no coherent design language or patterns
-
no brand alignment or coherent go to market strategy
-
no recurrent income
-
I was engineering hire #2 and worked closely with Ben (founding engineer) to build all the infrastructure we have now from the ground up. Now we have:
- A functional backend (which we first built in Ruby due to CTOs insistence and then rebuilt in Typescript once the CTO departed and Ben took over)
- Two production ready frontend web apps for customers and clinicians
- On the customer portal a really sick survey form experience that took so long for me to build and get validation working properly on. I have a newfound respect for good forms online… especially medical forms that use a bespoke EHR provider… the validation complexity can be surprising.
- A product that has been shipped to many early users and 250+ people on the waitlist
- UX designs with coherent specifications and 3 future iterations in the pipeline to build
- A somewhat coherent go to market strategy
- still no recurrent income but getting closer every day

Life
- Duan and I broke up, we spent a month living together afterwards and feeling out the end and making amends. I helped her move out.
- I lived in the apartment after that on my own for 3 months. It was quite a nice way to come back to myself. I focused a lot on work, on working out hard, on eating properly and on building new friendships.
- I grew my social circle.
- I started a writing club which we do fortnightly which also turned into an amazing new friendship group. Helped a friend start an essay club which we do regularly.
- Decided I wanted to actively build more community; so convinced James Jenny and David that we should create a share house together.
- We spent almost two months looking for the right place… and finally found an incredible house in Redfern.
- We’re slowly turning it into a pretty awesome social space… I feel like i’m hosting 2-3 events here every week and so lovely. I’m getting better at being host and enjoying it too. I keep meeting more and more wonderful brilliant friendly ambitious people and it warms my heart.
- I hosted a storytelling night the day we moved in and it was such a vibe. Doing pt.2 very soon.
- I feel like i’m slowly bringing into existence what for so long I wish existed in Sydney but that I couldn’t find.
